Summary et1, Delfin Tini Netklub, Hungary

SUMMARY

of the answers to our questions: Which technologies evolve quickly in your country? What do you think of tablets and other touch screen devices? Could you imagine a life without a computer and mobilphone?

In their opinion the most modern tools are not for children. It’s hard to imagine a life without a computer or cell phone, but people can live traditionally too.

In their country is a strong need for new technologies, as people recently have modern facilities to carry out the work. It is no longer possible to live without a computer and touch-screen devices.

A lot of people really like the new stuff. Young people are especially open for new tools to enjoy better movies and music.

They've also rapidly evolving communications technology. However, these new devices are not as durable as the old ones. Touch-screen devices are essential for school work but they can help us keep in touch as well.

In Slovenia, a lot of people use touch screen technology. The study would be boring without computers. At school, students are able to practice on tablet devices as well. Smart phones are more advanced than the old phones.

Computers, phones, audio and visual systems recently developed rapidly, in Romania too. The young generation has been so long in everyday use of mobile phones to be without it life would be a nightmare.

Without the recent important discoveries we can’t imagine our lives. Ukraine is well aware of the youth of the touch screen phones, notebooks. E-Readers and iPad devices are simple to use, convenient, fast. They make life easier.

The powerful, portable, touch-screen devices are very common in this group as well. These devices have still a lot of faults but they help healing works in hospitals or educational activities. Later, the errors disappear, but care should be taken so that users do not become addicted.

Summary: On the first question almost every respondent named the communications technology or any part of it. Each team is aware of and uses advanced touch-screen devices. Many team express enthusiasm for such assets. Most young people say that they are essential for learning and private activities. Some teams complain of lack of software, poor manageability and unnecessary features. In general, respondents see the danger that young people can become addicted, but without computer and cell phone, tablets and other touch screen devices they can’t imagine their lives.

Technologies quickly became in the last few years the „heart” of our civilisation. They really are developing rapidly. The history showed that technologies have  developed with  civilization. Of course, people discovered and invented different things in order to make their life easier. We were really interested in the question: why do people complain about lack of time now, although, technologies help us in different areas of life: studying, entertainment, work. Can they really help us to plan our time and how do new technologies affect personalities of people? Before starting of the research we knew that nowadays we can’t imagine process of studying without internet, CD – ROM, DVD – ROM, „smart” blackboards. It’s a reallity that we interact with technologies on a daily basic, using gadgets and inventations  like an alarm clock, an electric cooker, different kind of (vehicles??),  a vacuum cleaner. New technologies help to save our time, we really can do many things without going out (do shopping, read books, communicate with other people, but on the other hand, there’s no a secret that people face to problems like loneliness, a lack of time. The progress in technology has a good impacts as well as bad implications to people. In many ways, technology simplifies life, and it has many beneficial effects to the human condition, although the result of the technological progress has brought many complications to our lives, too. So, we have made conclusion about advantages:  

·         Take and carry whole of data in tiny place; 

·         Students can do research and find a lot of information and they spend less time for it; 

·         It’s easy to spread information through the net without going out; 

·         Learning from internet is much more fun because a variety of all kinds of videos about basically every topic are aviable; 

·         The new generation communication and information technologies  makes a new environment for teachers and students equally. They motivate to learning, to learn new things; 

·         The virtual learning environment allows the international knowledge – exchange like GTP. Digital information: learning programs, websites, database, the word processors are useful. 

Internet, which came into the life on 7^th April, 1969, was the greatest discovery in the history of mankind. We agree with opinion that the internet, which was once a little puddle, now, has become an ocean of knowledge. Everybody can “swim” in it. Our partners of project said that no more geographic boundaries.  It’s amazing thing about the internet – communication that it makes possible. Most of the business firms communicate with each other with the help at e-mail. It’s faster and also safer way, too. It’s possible to communicate with a person who might be in some other continent as of yours. Before e-mail, people needed to deliver letters by themselves, it was wasting time a resources, too. For communication IM, chat, forums, conference calls, video conference calls are used, and we don’t need a face to face meeting. The internet is used for entertainment, too. It’s a place where you can find almost every song and more made anywhere in the world. All sorts of multiplayer games can be played with an opponent who might be on the other side of the world. There are some disadvantages, too: 

·         Many new information and databases, what makes more difficult to find an information; 

·         Social sites such us Facebook, Twitter, playing games and watching videos do addict the people, especially the youth. Even we decided to use the internet for our school work, sometimes we forget about it and visit what pages like Facebook instead; 

·         Internet has encouraged the concept of piracy.  

·         If you ask any question on the internet, most of the people answering these questions are not qualified professionals. 

This lead to a lot of myths spreading around. We damage our health badly. We have a lot of problems with our back and we can get poor eyesight. Also we made conclusion about that how new technologies can help our time: 

·         We can make some notes in our phone, calendar to organize our plans, our work and our school obligations. Computers play the similar role; 

·         You can do shopping, reading, collecting, auto repair and so much more with just a few clicks on your mouse. Buying many different websites can provide your deals, timely service, and exceptional support. But when you read on the web it can save your more than thousands of dollars; 

·         A lot of devices came after the e-mail helping us save time and manage it letter (cell phones, laptops, smart phones, tablets). 

In addition, we can speak about influence of new technologies to personalities of people. Unfortunately people spend more and more time in front of PC and forget about social life, talking each other face to face. The huge development in technology has also complicated life by changing cultural values. The amount of technology in our lives can influence our grade of ignorance, because getting that much help from devices and software can make it lazy and unable to solve our problems by ourselves. A person, using to much the technology are more exposed to the risk of becoming technoholics and developing additions, as we said before. Some technologies also have negative effects on the environment and it reduces a quality of our life. The technologies may have influence on forming ones personality and as we know it can have good or bad influence. It is depends on the way how technologies are used. We must take advantages of technology and use it mainly for our development as better person. It is important to choose correctly and favourably for us when to use technology we are getting a step closer to our bright future. To sum up, using modern technologies can be helpful at the same time. We did not find differences in the different countries. Students over the world use new technologies in process of studying, except in developing countries. All kind of new technologies are available over the world. What is more, we can say that new technologies are a key for understanding between people from different countries. Also, problems are the same. It do not matter where you live, try to be careful using new technologies, and you make your life easier and, of course, it can help save tour time.

Summary et3, Municipality secondary medical school “D-r Jovan Kalauzi”, Macedonia

 

From the research you made we saw that the technologies were differenter than they are now. They didn't have laptops, ipads, mobile phones and not even printers or computers. They were having simple wight and black TVs that contained big, black box with small, noisy picture. Now we have TVs in every color possible that are in compact sizes and flat screen with more than 600 chanells unlike in the past that were only a few chanells available. 

Now we do have DVD player that run with CDs that can run in more than 4GB memory with HD picture. The movies are also 3D, but back then they had simple video players that were running not with CDs, but with tapes that were not keeping much memory.

The computers are now available to us in a compact sizes, not like they were taking room spaces and still had not enough memory. 

Now we have mobile phones and then in the past the people had barely normal phones at home.

At work they were typing the texts on machines and now that all goes on computers much faster and much easier.

Even at home the women's work was harder, and they had to do the washing up, for example, on hand instead now that we have our own machines. Can you even imagine a house without a washing machine?

Summary et4, LICEUL TEORETIC ”NICOLAE IORGA”, Romania

 

Hello!

 

Here is the end of the session and here is the summary. As always, we learned a lot of new things and we found out what people all around the world think about technology and how do they use it, what they can use and how informed they are.

So, at first we start by saying  that we found out that everybody especially appreciates smartphones in the first place. Maybe because the new era's mobile phones are useful for everybody. But we think that is wrong to appreciate such an usual thing. There are far more important things that must be took in evidence.
For example, ET2 thinks that Google is the biggest invention. And this is good to consider, because the huge amount of data and information that this engine provides is perhaps the biggest of this kind in history.

ET5 thinks that GPS is the most important because the big contribution in all kinds of traffic and others.

Another good point comes from ET8. They say that the medical devices are the most important inventions of the past 20 years, such as artificial hearts and high tech chirurgical robots.
ET9 sustains that the World Wide Web is the greatest invention of the past 20 years (even it was invented before 83') and we also appreciate their point o view.

There are lots of opinions and by studying the answers we found out that the latest inventions are so important that we can't nominate one for being the best.

Summary et6, Šolski center Kranj, Slovenia 

 

Hello again! Here are the findings about our questions: 

 

A1: At all schools they use smart board, computers and projectors. At the majority of schools the equipment is modern and up-to-date but at the others it is old-fashioned (because of the lack of money). There are advantages (interesting learning, motivation) as well as disadvantages (impairing eyesight, wasting too much time because of old equipment). Some get money from the European projects, some don't get the financial support to update or upgrade the equipment.

 

A2: There are different opinions about having modern or not so modern equipment at schools: some think there isn't a problem if the equipment is old but some think it's important to use modern equipment during the school lessons. But we all agree that every school should get some help from the European projects or from their own government to facilitate the learning process using new technology.

 

A3: At most schools they do not use tablets or smart phones or they are not allowed to use them during lessons. Some of them agree there would be positive effect of using them (faster learning, not so heavy bags) but some think that the usage would distract students and only cause them problems because of e.g. playing games instead of learning things on smart phones/tablets.

This edition of the GTP was extremely interesting and we have found out many new things. Through the answers to all the questions we have found out about the various difficulties that other countries have with emerging technologies, about ingenious ways of using technologie or of preventing us from polluting from.

We've also discovered how people from other countries value the last and old tech and how they may regard it according to their customs and culture.

We've enjoyed our time discussing the answers to all of the questions and, yet again, it has been very informative.

Our question was:

«Our generation is often called "digital generation". What is your attitude to this term? Say if you agree or disagree with it. Why? How well are the schools in your country equipped with new technologies? What place do they occupy in your learning process? Why?»

 

Most of our partners agree that we can be called "digital generation".

Why? Because:

• ·         Significant part in the daily life of our generation put out to use the phone or computer.

 

• ·         According to the survey e very student of grades 7-12 has a mobile phone and a computer. Mostly students spend over age 4-5 hours on computers every day.

 

• ·         We try to solve our problems—increasingly and regardless of age—with digital methods.

 

• ·         The main world tendency today is development of modern information society. Children are also exposed to this tendency of development. Researches show enormous use of ICT’s by today’s children.

 

• ·         Older people call our generation like this because they know how life was back when they were kids and now when they see what kind of devices we have, devices that when they were kids were things they could only dream about, and how they make our lives more fun and easier.

 

 

Students from National College «B.P.Hasdeu», Romania think that the tern “digital generation” is unpropiate because not everyone uses gadgets.

 

Most schools are equipped with new tehnologies quite well. We can say that tehnologies are coming in schools rapidly good points:

• every school has a computer class

 

• there are computers in schoolslibraries

 

• there are different gadgets like CD players, projectors at schools

 

• every school has a permanent internet connection

 

• schools have an opportunity to participate in  Europe projects to find funding to supply clasrooms with new tehnologies

 

• schools in the cities are better equipped with new tehnologies then schools in countryside, it's a problem for very small school (20-40 students)

 

• it's difficult to work with new tehnologies for teachers at age 50-60

 

• not all students are motivated to work with new tehnologies fro studying, they more enjoy use new tehnologies for entertainment

 

 

 

                               New tehnologies play a big role in learning process. They are used during lessons and doing homeworks too. We can say that new tehnologies are a way of the world. New tehnologies are used in learning process for finding information, making presentations, doing research, sef-studying, communication with teachers.

 

we are the «Digital generation» because we were born exactly when all these revolutionary technology started to develop and were raised with them at our disposal. Technology advanced so fast that now everywhere you look you will see someone with a mobile telephone, a tablet or a laptop. This could be good or bad because these devices made our lives easier but are they becoming our lives as well? Only time will tell.
